''ov Gord III'' in the référence: AYC #2 ov Gord III, means that this coin is overstruck on a coin of Gordian III. ''ov'' for overstruck. As mentioned by these two auction houses, this coin is overstruck on an antoninian of Gordian III. The obverse legend clearly shows ...P DRYATILLA AVG, the reverse does not appear to be over-struck. This type of reverse was used by Gordian III and there is a radiated crown under the portraiture on the obverse. Despite the condition of the coin, we can think that it is still the same unique obverse die that we see on the entire coinage in the name of Dryantilla. The original coin therefore has a radiated, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III on the left, legend: IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG and the reverse legend is: AETERNITATI AVG.
