IMP C P C REGALIANVS AVG

Radiate and draped bust of Regalianus to the right.

FIDES MILITVM

Fides standing front and holding a standard in each hand.

Coin referenced in RIC 5B, page 586, n °3. Source: Bentinck collection. The RIC does not mention if a legend break exists on the reverse or if the coin is overstruck. The RIC tells us that the coin is bronze. While waiting to confirm its existence, I ask several questions: is it, like the AYC #1 ov Sev (LM), RIC - a limès denarius overstruck? Or a virgin blank with a very low silver title? Pure bronze? Regarding the description of the reverse, the RIC 5B says "Fides standing to the left ..". I noted standing front because this FIDES MILITVM type with Fides holding two banners, is always seen with the character standing front. I think that the part of the bust had to be partially erased and that the orientation of the head must have influenced the author about the orientation of the character. Unless the character is actually turned to the left because these new dies are of poor quality. Yet I note that they imitate known types very well. Only the style is more archaic. Moreover, to imagine a character turned to the left and holding a standard with each hand seems improbable, the standard held on the right being therefore in the back of the character.

''ov?'' in the reference: AYC # 4 ov?, means that this coin is overstruck on a coin of an undetermined emperor. ''ov'' for overstruck.
