Coin referenced in the RIC X n°286, source: Malter 14 Juin 1980, lot 175. I was able to obtain a scan of the catalog page containing this lot 175 and it emerges from this that the officina letter recorded in RIC X is very likely the remnant of a double strike; while this remains to be confirmed, it seems highly probable that this officina is not actually present. The double strike is actually noted in the catalog, so I am observing the same thing as the auction house expert who handled the coin.
I noted type B by default because it is the one seen on all examples (with the exception of AYC #35, RIC 286) of this type II series with officina letter or dots in the legend on the obverse.
Type II: with the mark CONOB or COMOB (COMOB here) and the reverse legend generally ending at the level of the shield. No legend punctuation on the reverse. A square, upright throne, the right knee is rounded, natural drapery, and a vertical scepter. This corresponds to Type I of RIC X. Variant B is the same as RIC X: a smaller, rounder shield.
