''ov Sev'' in the reference: AYC #3 ov Sev, means that this coin is overstruck on a denarius of Septimius Severus. ''ov'' for overstruck. This coin went on sale again the 09/09/2008 in UBS Gold & Numismatics, Auction 78, lot 1888, link to the sale: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=499283. Comparing it with the sale Hess of 1935, I see some edges chipped since this sale. The photo of the catalog allows us to better see the remains of legends of the original coin. On the obverse there is a laureate portraiture with short hair under the portraiture of Dryantilla. I propose Alexander Severus, because it seems that the letters SEV are visible. To confirm. There appears to be only one obverse die for the entire coinage in name of Dryantilla. On this coin the obverse die is the same and therefore it is easy to note the legend used for Dryantilla. On the reverse I read S II lower left, COS II? This coin is over-struck on a denarius with the legend COS II or III or ... Impossible to know more.

Two other coins show remains of legend impossible to read. The first coin was sold the 21/11/2013 by Fritz Rudolf Künker GmbH & Co. KG, Auction 243, lot 5141, link to the sale: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1768909, on the reverse we can see the letter V between the letters R and E of REGINA. The second coin was sold the 22/04/2010 by Dr Busso Nachfolger, Auction 400, lot 591, link to the sale: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=767829. On the obverse and reverse we can see letters impossible to read with a laureate portraiture under the portraiture of Dryantilla. This coin is over-struck on a denarius. The original legend appears under the one of Dryantilla. We can see that even the legend of Dryantilla is far from the edge. The blank appears to be very large compared to the dimension of a denarius. What is the reason? We can not conclude anything, the conditions of conservation of the coin can create various things: reaction of the alloy etc ...
