IMP CAES M CLOD PVPIENVS AVG

Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Pupienus left, seen from three quarters ahead. Holding a globe with a victory over it with the right hand and holding a parazonium? with the left hand.

LIBERALITAS AVGVSTORVM

A citizen kneeling and raising his arms to a platform where are from left to right: Liberalitas standing, holding an abacus and a cornucopia; Pupienus, Balbinus and Gordian III seated. Behind them is a soldier standing and holding a spear.

One coin preserved at the British Museum, Museum number 1871,0702.93, link to the sale: https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/C_1871-0702-93. Purchased in 1871 from Rollin and Feuardent. Authenticity questioned by some experts. To confirm.

RIC 4B, page 176, n ° 25 did not note a cuirass, the description of the bust is difficult given the condition of the coin. I noted parazonium? in the description of the bust because it is hard to determine what Pupienus is holding. RIC 4B noted a scepter surmounted by an eagle which seems invisible on the coin preserved at the British museum. However, we cannot exclude its presence because difficult to analyze. What is annoying is the source cited by RIC 4B: Münzhandlung Basel catalog VIII, 953. Lot 953 is a sestertius with laureate, draped and cuirassed bust on the right and the reverse: LIBERALITAS AVGVSTORVM _ S C. We therefore have a description of different bust for this medallion and an erroneous source ... One can wonder if the coin described is that seen in the British museum. However, I think it is the same coin with a cited source error.
