IMP M ANT GORDIANVS AFR AVG

Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian I Africanus to the right, seen from three quarters back.

P M TR P COS P P

Pax? standing left, stretching out a branch with the right hand and holding a small scepter with the left hand.

Coin referenced by RIC 4B and preserved in the British Museum. I have classified this coin for informational purposes because in my opinion it is probably the same type as the one with the genius of the Senate. I demonstrated in the AYC #2 and 2 (1), that the description ''emperor standing left ...'' given for this this by RIC 4B is wrong. In addition, this book distinguished different crowns for this character on the reverse which I also demonstrated that it is in reality always the same. (see comments of AYC # 2 and of AYC # 2 (1). RIC 4B concerning the coin classified here, describes the character's crown on the reverse as diademed. Did this element orient the character description towards Pax? I think, unless a female breast is present, then pointing to a female figure. I didnt saw any coin from the British Museum showing an actual unmistakably feminine figure. Actually, as the only element interestingly described by the RIC 4B is this "diademed" crown, this coin is very probably a misinterpretation of the character on the reverse. I did not note any legend break on the reverse, not knowing which copy was analyzed by the RIC 4B.
