PAX AVG
Reference : AYC #3, RIC 5
Weight: ?
Metal: Silver
Diameter: ?
Scarcity: Extremely rare
Type:
LAELIANVS AV
Radiate and draped bust of Laelianus to the right, seen from three quarters ahead.
PAX AVG
Pax standing left, holding an olive branch with the right hand and a scepter with the left hand.
Coin referenced in the RIC 5B, page 372, n° 5 and the Cohen vol.6 page 66, n° 1. I noted the descriptions given by the Cohen, I added the probable orientation of the bust and the hands used by Pax to hold the various elements. A non-cuirassed bust? Strange. Source given by Cohen n° 1: Correr Museum. To confirm. Coin described in bronze by the Cohen, therefore probably in billon with very little silver. If I add much this information to the LAELIANVS AV legend, I wonder if the coin is not an ancient imitation.
