''ov ?'' in the reference: AYC #9 ov?, means that this coin is overstruck on a denarius of an indeterminate emperor. ''ov'' for overstruck. I classify this coin individually because even if we see small dots on the portrait, we cannot compare it to the coins classified in the comments of the AYC #9 ov Car? Elag ?, RIC 8. These coins show little or no remains of the reverse sides of the original coins but the portrait style remaining with the small dots, suggests (among others) Caracalla or Elagabalus. On this coin the small dots are visible but the reverse seems to show a long torch held by a seated figure. It is therefore difficult to bring her closer to one emperor than another. The portrait on the obverse appears bearded. I think that the die having overstruck is itself equipped with small dots illustrating the hair and a beard.

I am classifying here a coin of which the emperor is undetermined, the visible beard and hair belong to the die having struck for Regalianus. Here is the coin:

This coin also shows remains but they are impossible to identify. We can read the letter S on the reverse, the rest being illegible. Here is the coin:

I assign the RIC numbers according to the marked legends. For example, RIC 7 is given for an overstrike of a Caracalla denarius. I have classified coins under this number 6 because they use the same legends for Regalianus, even though they are overstruck from other emperors. The RIC 6 is also existing for two different types: LIBERLAS AVGG and ORIENS AVGG, this is a number assignment error. The PROVIDENTIA AVGG type should be n°9.
