Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian I Africanus to the right, seen from three quarters back.

ROMAE AE - TERNAE

Rome seated left on a shield, holding a scepter with the left hand and a victory with the right hand. Victory holds a palm with the right hand and a crown with the left hand.

Coin referenced in the RIC and the Cohen. I found the photos of the sale: ''Rollin et Feuardent, 25 avril 1887, Collection de M. le vicomte de Ponton d'Amécourt. Monnaies d'or romaines et byzantines.''. The coin is the lot 474, in excellent condition (described by the catalog as F.D.C, exaggerated grade for a roman coin). The RIC 4B adds about this coin "found in Boulogne". Unique coin.

Gordian I and II share the same obverse legend, the bust of Gordian II is distinguished by absence of hairs in front of his laurel wreath.
