Coin illustrated in ''Толстой И.И. - Византийские монеты'' = Tolstoi Vizantiyskie Monety, 1912. Plate 5, n°36. Quoted in the RIC X which gives this source added to the source: Hermitage Museum of Saint Petersburg. Is this the coin illustrated in the book that is preserved in this museum?

Tolstoi 1912 as well as the RIC X describe the reverse legend as being: SALVS REI - PVB  LICAE. However, despite the quality of the photo, I see a round shape like an ''o'' surrounded by two dots. There may be a third dot above ''o'' but that is probably a defect in the grenetis. To confirm.

I note that on the reverse Theodosius II rests his feet on a step. I saw three copies (one for the AYC #5, one for this AYC #5 var and on for the AYC #5 TR mark) and cannot yet confirm if a variant without a step exists. As with AYC #5, a ribbon appears to emerge from the letter G of AVG on the obverse, as is often the case in Italian mints. The coin seems (the quality of the photo does not allow to be categorical) to share the same obverse die as the copy of the British Museum, Museum Number 1867,0101.989. See comments of the AYC #5. RIC X noted that this series struck at Aquileia had the style of the Ravenna mint.

Note to finish that the RIC X describes this type as being with the two emperors standing while all the coins show Theodosius seated.
