VIRTVS AVGG
Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian I Africanus to the right, seen from three quarters back.
Virtus standing left, holding a branch with his right hand, a spear with his left hand and having a shield at his feet.
Coin referenced in the RIC 4B, page 161, n°6. Source; Schulman, list 90, 199. I could not find this catalog, the descriptions are based on data from the RIC 4B. Coin to be confirmed. This Virtus type is different from the one we see for Gordian II where Virtus does not hold a branch. I noted the bust as being cuirassed, also to be confirmed because the RIC 4B noted a doubt about the bust: ''? cuir.''. See this article about the non-cuirassed variant: https://www.all-your-coins.com/en/blog/antique/romaines/les-bustes-seulement-drapes-de-balbin-a-gordien-iii.
Gordian I and II share the same obverse legend, the bust of Gordian II is distinguished by absence of hairs in front of his laurel wreath.
