Discovery of portrait and die variants of the Écu of 6 livres Louis XVI
This article will show you what I found on portraits and dies for 15 Sols type FRANÇAIS and FRANÇOIS. I specify that by the time you read this, my work is already online in the site's database, see here: https://www.all-your-coins.com/fr/blog/moderne/france-royales/decouverte-de-variantes-de-portrait-et-de-coins-des-15-sols-louis-xvi.
There are 3 types of reverse legend, the short legend, the half-long legend and the long legend. A slightly smaller portrait exists but it is not important to classify it. Anyway, as for the other Sols or Ecu of 3 livres, there are dies with portraits of different sizes and legends ranging between short and half-long, half-long and long. I only classify the dies which are really with a strong variation. The FRANÇAIS type does not seem to vary from die. Here are these dies:
Short reverse legend: with the S of FRANÇOIS in front of the ribbon. (1)

Half-long reverse legend: with the O and the I of FRANÇOIS in front of the ribbon. (2)

Another thing, the dot after the date shifts. It is close to the date or S of FRANÇOIS, or even in between.
