Photo of a coin sold by cgb.fr, link to the sale and their website: https://www.cgb.fr/charles-ier-dit-charlemagne-denier-ttb,v56_0002,a.html. This coin has the letter X on the obverse oriented like a cross while the crosses on the obverse and reverse are inclined.

Monograms Karolus:

(1) Without letter A in the diamond on the middle.

(2) With the letter A inscribed at the top in the diamond on the middle.

It seems that the dies of these coins have been re-used for Charles II The Bald, therefore it is impossible to differentiate the coins. These coins will be classified under the two kings with this same comment.

The only difference between type 1, var 2 and type 1, var 3 is the letter S inclined on the reverse.
