Monogram Karolus:

(1)  With the letter A inscribed at the top in the diamond on the middle.

One can think that these denari were struck between 771 and 794 .. which places this strike between the first two periods for Charlemagne. I classified this coin in the second period because of the monogram which is the type adopted for this period. It is probably a transition with the type CARO _ LVS  in two lines, struck during the first period. Which would make these coins the first strikes with the monogram.
