Denarius, type 1, var 3
HLVDOVVICVS IMP (circular legend around a cross surrounded by a circle made up of dots, a cross between the letter P and the letter H).
MELDIS (inscribed in one line with the letters L and S inverted).
Photo of the copy preserved at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (public domain), link to the page of their website showing the photo of the coin: https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b10442244w.r=louis%20le%20pieux?rk=4721053;2.
This coin is perhaps an contemporary imitation. I notice that the letters S are inverted (common on official coins) but also that the letter L is inverted too on the reverse, which is rare and that I have never seen yet on official coins. I add the letter M, on the reverse, in the form of H. However, I think that this coin is all the same official, there is no error of legend, simply an awkward engraving.
